NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW – UNLESS YOUR TURNOVER EXCEEDS €10 BILLION

The annual turnover of Brophy Solicitors sadly does not exceed €10 billion. In practical terms this means that if I act in a manner that deliberately causes harm to young children or that deliberately results in people developing life threatening addictions or deliberately means that people’s reputation is unnecessarily and wrongly destroyed, I will not get away with it.

Multinational drinks corporations however can ensure that their drinks contain excessive amounts of sugar and food companies can ensure that their products contain excessive amounts of salt and other dangerous products. As a result I have had parents coming in to me complaining that their children have been diagnosed with gum disease, almost certainly down to excessive use of sugary soft drinks. I have adults coming to me with diabetes, heart disorders and other health problems almost certainly due to excessive salt and other dangerous products in their food. Of course a good portion of the people that come through my office smoke and will almost certainly die a prolonged painful death because of their use of cancer inducing cigarettes. Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites and organisations such as TripAdvisor will get away with allowing unscrupulous parties to defame, threaten, harass and intimidate.

If I happen to be black or brown and live in one of the US states who have introduced “Stand Your Ground” type statutes then I can be shot dead while going about my lawful business if an angry white man with a legally held weapon decides that he might be under threat from me.

I live in Ireland so I am safe from the madness of the National Rifle Association.

So we don’t have guns and all we need to do now is to get rid of food, drink and cigarettes and there is every chance I could live to a ripe old age and by then I should have an annual turnover in excess of €10 billion and then I can do anything I want, and get away with it.
